Penobscot Bay and the Stonington archipeligo is known for some of the best kayaking and boating on the east coast. There are numerous gorgeous islands, some of which you can hike and picnic on, there is also plentiful marine wildlife including; eagles, osprey, sea ducks, seals, and porpoises to watch. The island offers a unique variety of galleries; antique and regional craft shops, the Granite Museum, the Island Historical Society Museum, the nationally renowned Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, gift stores, Stonington Opera House, Dave's Guide Service, Old Quarry Ocean Adventures, and a wide selection of dining establishments offering fresh local seafood.
